Patient centricity in the med tech industry is complex. The sector represents around 500,000 medical devices – from scalpels and wheelchairs to surgical implants and X-ray machines – each at varying levels of visibility to the patient.
The Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) brought in Monmouth Partners to help it define and understand the relevance of this growing agenda to its vastly diverse membership. The aim was to provide the ABHI with a number of practical approaches that would offer value to the differing needs of its stakeholders.
What we did Our work involved a review of ABHI member and staff perspectives. We looked at existing approaches, good practice and gaps in knowledge, alongside a critical review of ABHI’s support, communications and policies. We followed this with a one-day facilitated workshop, held with representatives from ABHI staff, board and member organisations. This helped shape and develop a prioritised action plan and timeline.
One practical outcome is a half-day member conference to challenge companies to think about the role of the patient, and what it means in practice for the industry. The programme has been designed to help delegates understand customer and stakeholder expectations of patient engagement as well as a practical view of what is happening inside and outside of the sector.
